Dhankar Village
Dhankar village is located in Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh in India between Kaza to Tabo town. From Dhankar to Tabo 30 Km & Dhankar to Kaza 35 Km away. The beautiful village is located 13000 feet from the sea level. This village is located in the heart of the Spiti Valley and surrounded there are 02 beautiful river flows Pin River & Spiti River. Dhankar is the most popular site of Spiti Valley. Dhankar is a small village, resident of approx 110 families. There are 02 prime attraction of this village Dhankar Lake & Dhankar Monastery. 


Dhankar Lake
Dhankar Lake is situated two hours away from Dhankar Monastery. This lake is very beautiful. Climbing above the Math you can also see the beauty of the villages inhabited below. You can also see fish in the lake. Dhankar Lake is situated on the other side of the mountain near dangerous rocks 4 km from Dhankar Monastery. You can spend a peaceful time on the banks of this lake and see the changing colors of the sky. There is good trek from village to Lake, you can easily reach but please wear good grip shoes because its high altitude mountain but trek is easy to reach Lake. June to September is the best time to visit & trek for this lake.   


Dhankar Monastery
The word 'dhankar' means fort in local language, and the place was once the castle of Nono, the ruler of Spiti. This monastery was also used as a prison during the begining days of its construction. There are several Buddhist scriptures in the Bhoti script, along with a life-size silver statue of Vajradhara (supreme essence of all male Buddhas) Another highlight is the statue of Dhayan Buddha that leaves one in awe of its splendour. Around 150 lamas call this monastery home. 
Dhankar Monastery is located in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, India, which is listed as one of the 100 most endangered monuments. At an elevation of 12,800 feet, the monastery is incredibly inclined on the edge of a cliff and offers panoramic views of the Spiti valley. This monastery, built 1000 years ago on a mountain 1000 feet high, can be seen touching the confluence of the rivers Spiti and Pin. This Monastery belongs to Gelugpa sect of Buddhism. This monastery made by mud, stone & clay. They allow only 15 - 20 people in one time to enter in old Dhankar monastery.
