Mitawali & Padavali - A Historic Collection of Beauty

Mitawali:-
Situated at about a distance of 30 kms from Gwalior in state of Madhya Pradesh India. Mitawali gives a refreshing twist of those, who seek something new while visiting thousands year ols heritage of India. Mitawali's "Chausath Yogini Mandir" or "Temple of 64 Goddesses" having a structure similar to Indian Parliament with a circular courtyard, having Lord Shiva at its centre, and 64 small rooms at its periphery, gives a new understanding of architecture, different from monotonous structures of Temples, we are used to visit. In fact, the Parliament House in New Delhi is believed to have been inspired from the circular design and architectural intricacies of the Mitawali Temple. The Temple structure is also a wonderful lesson for rain harvesting and engineering. The perforated based at the central structure allowed rain water to collect in a huge reservoir below which is not visible from outside. The roof is also built in a way that rain water gets drained quickly. It is said that the Temple was the venue of providing education in astrology and mathematics based on the transit of the Sun.

Padavali:-
Situated at about 5 kms from Mitawali, Padavali is known for its ruins and small Fortress, however, having little to offer in terms of spectacle. Padavali boasts of its title of "Mini Khajuraho". Padavali fortress was built in the 18th century by the Jat Ranas rulers of Dhaulpur (Rajasthan). Graciously guarded by a lion and lioness, the fort also has a Temple that once served as a divine place to worship Lord Shiva. Padavali Temple being dedicated to Lord Vishnu, a huge Nandi (Lord Shiva's Mount) found from its ruins means it could have been dedicated to the God of destruction too.

Note: If you are planning to visit Gwalior so don't forget to add these 02 collection of historic architectural beauty.
