Meena Tribal Village 

A short distance from the pink city of Jaipur i went to visit Meena Tribal Village. I was excited to meet the colorful Meena tribes. When i finished my sightseeing of Amer Fort then i decided to visit this village. This village is also very close to Amer Fort, approx 03 hours morning walk takes you to visit Meena tribal settlements on the outskirts of City. The town of Amer and home today of the Amber Fort, located high on a hill 11 kms from Jaipur, was originally built by Meenas. Step away from the exhaust fumes and maddening crowds of Jaipur, and into a colorful rural village of the Meena Tribe. As you take a walk with a local guide, along a skinny path through green hills, This moderate trek gets you off-the-beaten track and takes you to areas little visited by tourists. Good experience to interact with local and you’ll be able to talk to the locals, maybe share a cup of a tea with them also with this ancient community of people and you’ll also be able to see a ruined fort along with a hidden shrine.

The Meena people history through various myths and legends tracing their origin to the tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu (Matsya Avatar). The name of the people is derived from the word Meen, which means ‘fish’ in Sanskrit. They mainly worship Shiva, Hanuman and Krishna as well as the Devies. They are one of the largest tribal groups in Rajasthan.

The Meena Tribal Walk starts from Panna Meena step-well in Amber town down to the Amer Fort This 8-storey step-well old time this was used to collect and re-store water during the dry summer. Rajasthan is the only state in India where have many beautiful step-well and these step-well are perfect example of north Indian architecture. Walk to the old settlement of the ‘Meena’ tribe and visit the old temples of the village. Most of the villagers have now moved to Jaipur, but there are still a few who live there, tending their cows and buffalo. 

After this, you’ll begin walking up the nearby hill along a historic path which was used by the Maharajas of Rajasthan long time back to transport cannons from one corner of the hill to the other. This same path was used as the channel to collect rain water which flows down to the lake at the bottom of the hill. Stop at the first scenic point adjoining the ancient fort wall and gate. You will see the beautiful landscapes and the tiny villages in the distance. Along the way, discover ancient cenotaphs and shrines.
