Mirza Ghalib ki Haveli in Old Delhiغالب کی حویلی

 Mirza Ghalib ki Haveli

"Love demands patience, desire is restless; What color shall I paint the heart, until you savage it"

Mirza Ghalib ki Haveli is a historic place in Old Delhi streets. This is hidden place in the old Delhi streets. An archaeological milestone a witness of great history where every brick has its own story to tell. It was very famous place where the greatest Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib used to live and create all his marvelous poetry. It was almost on the verge of getting extinct with time but due to great initiative taken by some great minds, this place got renovated and preserved so that history lovers like us can witness it.

About Mirza Ghalib

Mirza Ghalib was born in December 1797 in Agra (Uttar Pradesh). His father was Mirza Abdullah beg. When Ghalib was 5 years old his father died. Then he lived with his uncle but he was 8 years his uncle passed away. He was married to Umrao Begum in 1810 at the age of 13 years. After his marriage, he soon left for Delhi where he lived until his death. He died in 1869. Due to shocking experience in life since childhood then they start thinking and started to wrote poetry & become a great poet.

History of Ghalib's Mansion

Ghalib's Mansion was the residence of the 19th century Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib and is now a heritage site located in the Gali Qasim Jan, Ballimaran, Old Delhi and reflects the period when the Mughal era was on the decline in India. Mirza Ghalib lived in this Haveli for a long period of his life after he came from Agra. While staying at this Haveli, he wrote his Urdu and Persian ‘diwans’. Many a year after Ghalib's death the place housed shops inside it until the year of 1999 after which the govt. acquired a portion of it and renovated it. It was given a special touch with the use of Mughal Lakhori bricks, sandstone & a wooden entrance gate to recreate the 19th century period.

This Mansion was gifted to Mirza Ghalib by an Hakim who was a great fan of his poetry. Every evening he used to recite his poetry to a huge audience. After the death of Ghalib, the Hakim used to go and sit there for hours so that nobody can occupy it. But soon in an auction, it was given to Mohd. Ali Farooqi whose bid was the highest at that time of approx 22 lakhs. Mohd. Farooqi then rented the haveli to the tenants. After a few years he and died and there was no legal heir of his property. Since then the haveli was given to multiple people for different use. Even once it was a marriage hall. But finally, in 1999 a part of the haveli was restored by Delhi Govt. Now the haveli is under the Archaeological Survey of India(ASI). The haveli is now serving as Mirza Ghalib's museum.

Inside Haveli

Inside the Haveli, there are a few of his original manuscripts on display, with his poetry quilled in beautiful script (with handy translations alongside). Also on display are some clothes that belonged to Ghalib and his wife—helpful reminders of the people who lived within these walls a few hundred years ago.
