Rawla Narlai - Tracing Pugmarks in Rural Rajasthan

 Narlai Village

Narlai is a small hamlet located in Aravalli ranges – a forested hill, this tiny village accounts for one of the most promising rural hotspots in Rajasthan. This destination doesn’t stand still waiting for admiration. It reaches out and speaks to you, of glory, of joy and of the golden era. It makes the perfect pit stop on a Udaipur to Jodhpur route. It is perfect destination for viewing Rajasthani culture. That’s because this hamlet is at almost equal proximity with both Jodhpur and Udaipur. As a result, it also lies in the neighborhood of the Ranakpur Jain Temples and Kumbhalgarh fort. Even today, this small settlement stays true to its culture. While strolling through the streets you’ll still find women in big bangles and veils and men in vibrant turbans. Every thing about this place is quintessential Rajasthani, even the sound of the breeze. It’s the perfect destination to spend the night if you are traveling anywhere between Udaipur and Jodhpur. However, to soak in the Marwari culture that’s in its roots, you’ll have to give this place another day or two. 

Narlai Royal Stepwell Dinner - Arrangement by Rawla Narali Heritage Hotel 

The Narlai 16th century stepwell is extraordinarily charming for royal Rajasthani dinner. The old Baoli  a short distance away from Rawla Narlai Heritage hotel. Stepwell decoration by hundreds of oil lamps and during winter a large fire pit will keep you warm also some folkloric dances will entertain you. Instead of a set of continuous steps designed to provide access to water to as many people as possible, this stepwell favors fewer steps, but strategically placed to create the biggest impact on onlookers. This preference may reflect the purpose of the stepwell, which was to be used by the Maharaja and the few people living on and around the property, rather than serving a whole village. The stepwell is equipped with a water wheel activated by a bullock that serves to control the water level in the well.

Leopard Sighting & Safari in Narlai Village

Sunrise Hiking to the Elephant Hill

A guide accompanied with you through the village to the foot of the rock. From there, you climb a total of 756 steps to the top of the Elephant Hill. At the top, a breathtaking view of the countryside and surrounded. A cup of hot tea with snacks gazing at the extraordinary view from the foot of the elephant statue, from which the hill gets its name. Narlai Village Walk 

Narlai Village Walk is an excursion into the village to look at the traditional lifestyle of local community, how people lives in a small hamlet & know the daily life of locals. Narlai is a very close-knit community and each individual comes across happy, contented and proud. In Narlai all families are Hindu. Agriculture, cattle and its supporting income make them content with a simple life. During the walk you can go inside some of the houses, talk to people, discussion with them & take photo shoot with family, have a cup of tea or smoke Hukka with them. The Village walk is ideally done in morning.

Narlai Train Ride

What an amazing experience to take a special train ride in Narlai village for them who love to explore in & around beauty of Narlai. This special train, Rawla Narlai can organize a half day trip on the meter gauge train that still runs through beautiful countryside. During the monsoon season (July - September) this ride can be different while the train passes though the waterfalls. This guided trip can be done in two stages – a couple of hours drive to the station or a journey by the train along with local villagers and then pick up at the end station by car/jeep followed by a drive back to hotel. 

Horse Ride in Narlai

If you are horse and mountain lover, village street view then definitely visit Narlai. Best place for horse riding or would like to ride, Narlai offers to fulfill this desire. Nearby stable that houses the pure bred Marwari horses that were the mounts of the royalty in the past, are the seats that can be ridden today. A Rajputana & Maharaja style ride in Aravali hill ranges. The rocky, hilly and plain terrain of Narlai can be ridden on these gentle mounts and explored on horseback. 

How to Reach Narlai

By Air: Nearest Domestic Airport is Udaipur as well as Jodhpur. Udaipur is 120 km / 03 Hours drive and Jodhpur is 128 km / 03 Hours drive to reach Narlai. Both the Airport well connected to International Airport New Delhi & Jaipur.

By Rail: The closest railway station to Narlai is Falna Railway station which is only 45 km away. This rail track is connected to Jaipur & Delhi. From here, commutes like busses and taxis are available to reach Rawla Narlai.

By Road: Narlai is located on top tourist location between Udaipur & Jodhpur route. All the major tourist destination is very close to Narlai via road.  

From Narlai: Udaipur = 120 Km, Jodhpur = 128 Km, Ranakpur = 36 Km, Kumbhalgarh = 45 Km
